Photo of Da day @ Da Pine #72

It just never ceases to amaze me what God will bring to you when you are out looking for bugs to photograph. Once again I am chasing butterflies. I am sitting within range of several flower blooms, waiting. This big (for a fly) fly keeps landing near me. I try to ignore him but he never flies more than a few inches and lands again. So I bring him into focus at one location, he flies 2-3 inches to another spot, I shoot a couple more frames, he moves and lands on this little rock. He sits there and lets me get extremely close ( 3-4 inches). I bang off a few more frames and move on to look for my beautiful butterfly.

I finally tire of chasing the illusive butterfly, those guys are harder to catch up to than you think. I download the images and I can see why the big guy  couldn’t fly very far. He was carrying lunch with him in the form of another insect. Amazing what nature brings to your plate…..enjoy….nada te turbe…..jim

  1. amazing clarity, the eyes are perfect. I am so impressed. What equipment are you using? I just bought a macro lens and am having a struggle with getting enough depth of field.
    again I simply say WOW!

  2. Maggie….thanx for your kind words. This photo was taken with a Nikon D300s with a 105mm Nikkor Micro lens. I used a Nikon SB 500 flash with a small light box attachment. D of F is a challenge. I took this on on manual flash at 1/2 power exposure was 1/200 sec at like F32-45 @ 200 ISO….keep shooting, I just got into micro photography and it is a fun challenge……en theos….jim
