YAKATY YAK, DON’T TALK BACK!!!!

This Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis) was  sounding off his trumpet at Bosque Del Apachae Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. To me they have a hauntingly beautiful bugle and honking sound  mixed with a crackling gurgle. Sounds much better than my words discribe, but most birds sing a much better tune than I carry.

They have been here on earth for a long time. Crane fossils have been found dating back to 10 million years making them the oldest known bird species still surviving today!
