We had a “herd” of brown-headed cowbirds show up around the feed trough. I mounted up my 500mm and set up to capture an image of a new breed. I sat in the shadows, in stillness and silence for a good 45minutes and the cowbirds never showed back up for the party.
This female Lesser Goldfinch (Spinus psaltria) put on a flight demonstration for me instead. The Lesser Goldfinch has an almost hummingbird like quality about them in their ability to hover and almost fly backwards.
As Keith & Mick so aptly stated:
“No, you can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
And if you try sometime you find
You get what you need ”
