HE IS ARISEN INDEED!

I am sure that I could not count the number of posts that are “arisen” today.

Just as I am sure of the number of followers that had turned their backs on this morning.

I would have been one.

I am one who turns my back even today.

but Ever so often He taps me on the shoulder

And assures me, that He is still here.

I may not stand in a church and loudly proclaim.

Yet in the quiet of a rising sun

He speaks to me

and I to Him.

HE IS ARISEN INDEED!

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #699 – ANOTHER PURPLE SUNRISE.

I have been on this cycle of rising early. It has not been intentional, just one of those patterns that naturally occurs. It has been nice as the West TX sunrises have been so outstanding. Lots of colors and patterns put up by the Master.

While it is a quiet time, I am never alone. My dogs, Clovis & Grace are always ready to go no matter what time it is. I am also always greeted and joined in company by my cat Muffs. Muffs is the most social of the three strays that occupy our yard. Muffs was deposited as a newborn kitten by his wandering mom a few years ago. He always would take food but had a circle of defense that was about 10-12 feet. When Muffs was about 6 months old, I became determined to make friends with him. I sat on the ground for about 3 hours, tossing little morsels of chow to him. He always had this longing look that he wanted to be touched, but just needed some encouragement. Since that first reluctant behind the ear scratch, he now so enjoys my companionship. I savour  his curiosity in my making of photos and I swear, he comes to pose for me.

Enjoy your furry friends and the sunrise.   en theos ††† jim

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #694 – PRE-DAWN GLOAMING WITH MY CAT

I was up early yesterday morning. Well, early for me, it was before the sun came up. It was so peaceful wandering around my yard in the gloaming.

In the Gloaming
by Meta Orred

In the gloaming*, oh, my darling!
When the lights are dim and low,
And the quiet shadows falling,
Softly come and softly go;

When the winds are sobbing faintly
With a gentle unknown woe,
Will you think of me, and love me,
As you did once long ago?

In the gloaming, oh, my darling!
Think not bitterly of me!
Tho’ I passed away in silence
Left you lonely, set you free;

For my heart was crush’d with longing,
What had been could never be;
It was best to leave you thus, dear,
Best for you, and best for me.

*gloaming is the twilight that occurs at dusk and dawn; I’m reminded of Yeats’s line about “The blue and the dim and the dark cloths/Of night and light and the half-light”

The trick is to not be gloomy in the gloam….en theos ††† jim

Sunrise doesn’t last all morning, a cloudburst doesn’t last all day, seems my love is up and has left you with no warning. It’s not always going to be this grey. All things must pass, all things must pass away.” George Harrison

I was greeted with this view from my yard yesterday morning. Such visual candy.

Some days you wake up early and wonder why?

Then you look out the kitchen window as you built the coffee, and you just whisper a wow and a thank you.  Your day is started with a blessing and a prayer.

Be aware of the wonder out your kitchen window. ††† en theos †††

As I sat doing my morning readings, I was greeted with a light fog that was floating just off the surface of the desert. It diffused the sunrise in the east and created this soft pastel glow on the Twin Sisters to the west. Despite the 25 degree chill in the air, my heart received a much warming feeling. Made me feel very blessed to have this right out my window.

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #642 – But what is work and what is not work?

But what is work and what is not work?  Is it work to dig, to carpenter, to plant trees, to fell trees, to ride, to fish, to hunt, to feed chickens, to play the piano, to take photographs, to build a house, to cook, to sew, to trim hats, to mend motor bicycles?  All of these things are work to somebody, and all of them are play to somebody.  There are in fact very few activities which cannot be classed either as work or play according as you choose to regard them.”
George Orwell

“You think this is just another day in your life. It’s not just another day. It’s the one day that is given to you today…. It’s the only gift that you have right now. And the only appropriate response is gratefulness.”   Brother David Steindl-Rast

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #628 – Follow your song!

At every turn in every day we are presented with angels in a thousand guises, each calling us to follow their song. There is no right or wrong way to go, and only your heart can find the appointments you are born to keep. It’s hard to take this risk, but meeting each uncertainty with an open heart will lead us to an authentic tomorrow.”      ©Mark Nepo
