Shades of Gray from Grayson Co, TX #782 – I’ll take the fuzzy one in the middle!

We walked into the fruit stand and I know a good melon when I thump one. The green eyed one in the middle had a much nicer purr than any of the others. I had my seven bucks out and was ready to buy. My wife quickly said the cat is not for sale. Oh well, I can pet him next time I’m there….†…monos en theos…..jim

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #736 – HE IS ARISEN !

HE IS ARISEN INDEED!

I am sure that I could not count the number of posts that are “arisen” today.

Just as I am sure of the number of followers that had turned their backs on this morning.

I would have been one.

I am one who turns my back even today.

but Ever so often He taps me on the shoulder

And assures me, that He is still here.

I may not stand in a church and loudly proclaim.

Yet in the quiet of a rising sun

He speaks to me

and I to Him.

HE IS ARISEN INDEED!

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #699 – ANOTHER PURPLE SUNRISE.

I have been on this cycle of rising early. It has not been intentional, just one of those patterns that naturally occurs. It has been nice as the West TX sunrises have been so outstanding. Lots of colors and patterns put up by the Master.

While it is a quiet time, I am never alone. My dogs, Clovis & Grace are always ready to go no matter what time it is. I am also always greeted and joined in company by my cat Muffs. Muffs is the most social of the three strays that occupy our yard. Muffs was deposited as a newborn kitten by his wandering mom a few years ago. He always would take food but had a circle of defense that was about 10-12 feet. When Muffs was about 6 months old, I became determined to make friends with him. I sat on the ground for about 3 hours, tossing little morsels of chow to him. He always had this longing look that he wanted to be touched, but just needed some encouragement. Since that first reluctant behind the ear scratch, he now so enjoys my companionship. I savour  his curiosity in my making of photos and I swear, he comes to pose for me.

Enjoy your furry friends and the sunrise.   en theos ††† jim

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #694 – PRE-DAWN GLOAMING WITH MY CAT

14-02-24sunrise_2012

I was up early yesterday morning. Well, early for me, it was before the sun came up. It was so peaceful wandering around my yard in the gloaming.

In the Gloaming
by Meta Orred

In the gloaming*, oh, my darling!
When the lights are dim and low,
And the quiet shadows falling,
Softly come and softly go;

When the winds are sobbing faintly
With a gentle unknown woe,
Will you think of me, and love me,
As you did once long ago?

In the gloaming, oh, my darling!
Think not bitterly of me!
Tho’ I passed away in silence
Left you lonely, set you free;

For my heart was crush’d with longing,
What had been could never be;
It was best to leave you thus, dear,
Best for you, and best for me.

*gloaming is the twilight that occurs at dusk and dawn; I’m reminded of Yeats’s line about “The blue and the dim and the dark cloths/Of night and light and the half-light”

The trick is to not be gloomy in the gloam….en theos ††† jim

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #691 – You Lookin’ @ ME!

I was sort of trying to photograph some yellow finches in my yard early this morning. My cat Muffs, was more than interested and sat for a peering from behind a fence watching the action.  He was a much easier subject than the finches, so I turned my long glass on him.

Go with what you are given. en theos ††† jim

“Throughout the centuries there were men who took first steps, down new roads, armed with nothing but their own vision.”      Ayn Rand

I know, I know, I know, the journey starts with one step. Yet, I remain frozen, afraid to take the next step.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference from resistance and knowing that you are just on the wrong path. ††† en theos † jim

IMAGES OF SMALL THINGS FROM THE BIGGEST COUNTY IN TEXAS #608 – LIFE ON THE EDGE!

My cat. Peach, knows how to live on the edge. She can come right to the edge of the ledge and relax and enjoy it. Sleep on it, let a leg dangle off of it. There is security knowing that you will always land on your feet. And you will.

Go to the edge and at least take a peak! ††† en theos ††† jimwork

Images of small things from the biggest county in Texas #553 – Once again a not so small thing, but what you going to do?

13-08-29cat sunrise_8518

I was awakened early yesterday morning. It was still dark o’clock as I wandered outside to feed the cats. The sun was still an hour from rising, but  there were some interesting clouds resting on the horizon.

I came back inside to work on yesterdays post. As I did and I listened to my own words about accepting what you are given. All the while thinking of the pending sunrise. I finished my post and grabbed Kon and tripod headed back out to greet the sunrise. It was warming and forming nicely and I quickly saw that while I had a great background, I had nothing for foreground. I set up the pod and went to self timer mode and was busy trying to frame myself in the foreground.

I had misplaced  myself  in three exposures and was behind the camera trying to calculate where I should be placing my silhouette. One of my curious  cats hopped up on the fence as if to say how about if I sit right here Mr DeMille, and then I will slowly walk back and forth across the top of the fence. How will that work for you?

Ah, the pleasure of taking what you are given. ††† en theos ††† jim work

Alley Cat.

A bit of jungle in the street
He goes on velvet toes,
And slinking through the shadows, stalks
Imaginary foes.

Esther Valck Georges.

The much loved and often despised stray cat. I have always had a soft spot for these seeming hard creatures. Just like most of us, they just need a little attention and love.

Go ahead, feed a stray, you might get a friend that never will leave you.
