We have been waiting (somewhat patiently) for Hagerman Wildlife Refuge to reopen. They were hit pretty hard with the Lake Texoma flooding from a couple of months back. The amount of damage was still evident and the folks have been working hard to get things back to normal, but it is a long haul.
We spent the afternoon there, whiling away the day with the company of many butterflies, waterfowl and other flying and crawling creatures. The butterfly garden was a real treat and we basked in the beauty that only He can put together, What fun.
These two dragonflies were part of a gaggle of twenty or so all hanging on to the barest of little stalks. These two were taken from the same angle as I was on the ground and it was impossible to hold focus on the both of them. They were about a foot or so apart. So I made two separate photos with both in focus and then stacked them together in photoshop. What fun !

but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. “And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” Mark 4:19-20
“In the darkest hour the soul is replenished and given strength to continue and endure.”
HE IS ARISEN INDEED!
I am sure that I could not count the number of posts that are “arisen” today.
Just as I am sure of the number of followers that had turned their backs on this morning.
I would have been one.
I am one who turns my back even today.
but Ever so often He taps me on the shoulder
And assures me, that He is still here.
I may not stand in a church and loudly proclaim.
Yet in the quiet of a rising sun
He speaks to me
and I to Him.
HE IS ARISEN INDEED!

If you happen to be traveling through Kerrville,TX, do yourself a favor, drive up a small but well marked route to visit the 77′ 7″ cross. You can’t hardly miss the place. It is located above a Ford dealership. The car lot is brightly lit up at night and is much more distracting than the illumination of the cross. I might know that God would prefer Fords’ and I drive a Chevy. Hey. it’s okay, Peter most likely would have driven a Chevrolet also.
The cross had its’ share of a troubled road shrouded in a God versus freedom and separation thing. Once you take the time to quiet yourself, allow the awe of the massive cross diminish, there is a huge amount of peace and calming presence to be seen and felt. From the detail in the life sized sculptures to the outpouring of hearts in the form of sharpie written notes written on the limestone rocks that line the paths, there is an amazing amount of hope and peace to be found.
I found the sculpture depicting Jesus washing Peter’s feet had an immense pull. I could hear Peter’s passionate grumbling of “no way Jose”. He sits with the traffic of I-10 streaming past in the background ready to bolt and run. Jesus is submissive, yet strong in his humbling teaching task.

Let’s see we have Good Friday, Black Friday but no colorful adjectives for Saturday.
I made this image on Sunday evening November 10 in Kerrville TX. I went to bed with a cough that evening and I have been sick ever since. I’ve had one or two almost okay days only to slip back under the covers. I think I forgot to leave something at the cross and that I picked something up instead. Just tired of coughing, hacking, fighting headaches. fever and sore lungs. It has been a really lousy three weeks and I am really wanting to lose this crud….

He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow, 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You are good at reading the weather signs in the sky, but you can’t read the obvious signs of the times! Matthew 16:2-3
I had heard this expression all my life, “Red sky at night sailors delight, red sky at morn sailors take warn”. I also have read Matthew several times and my mind must surely have drifted as I did not know that this saying was that old and that it came from the lips of Jesus.
Pay attention to the sunrises & sunsets. More importantly pay attention to your reading & the signs of the times! ††† en theos ††† jimwork
Men Improve with the Years
- I AM worn out with dreams;
- A weather-worn, marble triton
- Among the streams;
- And all day long I look
- Upon this lady’s beauty
- As though I had found in a book
- A pictured beauty,
- Pleased to have filled the eyes
- Or the discerning ears,
- Delighted to be but wise,
- For men improve with the years;
- And yet, and yet,
- Is this my dream, or the truth?
- O would that we had met
- When I had my burning youth!
- But I grow old among dreams,
- A weather-worn, marble triton
- Among the streams.
- William Butler Yeats
A nice fall morning, no sunrise, covered in clouds that drift into and over my heart. Questions of dreams dropped by Yeats weigh upon me. ††† en theos ††† jimwork
It had been a hard two days of doing sports portraits in Monahans Tx. This kind of work has been very good to me and while it feeds my pocketbook, it takes a toll on my heart and the work I have been called to produce. I am striving to produce images that glorify and reflect the imagination and beauty of our Great creator.
I was bone tired and weary yet my Master called me to pull off the road, stop and see what he wanted to show me. I am so grateful that I listened. On a route that I have traveled over a thousand times, He always has something up his sleeve to lift my spirit and renew my course.
I was just flabbergasted at the view with the semi-fish eye lens. A lens I carry, but rarely find an effective use for. But here it gave me the feel that I was looking at a small cross on a fence and the whole almost globe-like world was there for me to wonder.
“Open my eyes so that I may contemplate wonderful things from Your instruction.” Psalms 119:18
Listen, hear, stop, look and be filled with the wonder. ††† en theos ††† jimwork
“If we claim that we experience a shared life with Him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin.” 1 John 1:7 The Message
Sometimes, in a fifty shades of grey world, it is hard to find the difference between the dark and the light.
Work hard at finding your light today!
